Register-based Labour Market Statistics 2017

According to the Register-based Labour Market Statistics 2017, 342 400 children attended a primary school, 210 800 a lower or new secondary school, and further 211 600 were students in an academic secondary school. 13 100 children were attending a special school and 15 200 a pre-vocational school. In 2017, 42 800 young men and women were attending an intermediate technical and vocational school, 134 800 a higher technical and vocational school. 330 500 people attended a university or a Fachhochschule (university for applied sciences).

Register-based Census 2011

According to the Register-based Census, 329 500 children attended a primary school, 222 900 a lower or new secondary school, and further 108 800 the lower level of an academic secondary school. In 2011 in Austria. 90 900 people were students in an academic secondary school on the upper level. 11 400 children were attending a special school and 17 700 a pre-vocational school. In 2011, 48 800 young men and women were attending an intermediate technical and vocational school, 142 800 a higher technical and vocational school, and 11 300 a school for nursing and medical services. On the tertiary level 304 800 people attended a university, a Fachhochschule (university for applied sciences) or a post-secondary college, and 4 400 people attended a post-secondary course. Another 19 400 people attended some other kind of formal education.
