In 2019, hatcheries subject to reporting requirements reported a total of 125.3 million chicken eggs for hatching. This represents a decrease of 3.0% compared to the previous year. The number of eggs for laying breeds fall of by 4.6% to 23.3 million; eggs for fattening breeds declined by 2.6% to 102.0 million.
Accordingly, the number of hatched chicks for laying purpose decreased to 18.7 million
Numbers on turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowls and chicken for mixed meat and laying use will not be published for data protection reasons.
In accordance with Federal Law Gazette II No. 356/2003 (in the version currently in force; available in German only), all hatcheries with a capacity of at least 1 000 hatching eggs per year are subject to this survey.
