– 4 254 persons acquired Austrian citizenship during the first half
of 2020, according to Statistics Austria. The number of naturalisations
decreased by 20.5% compared to the first half of 2019 (5 349 naturalisations).
Females accounted for 54.3% of all naturalisations, children and juveniles
up to 18 years of age for 33.0%. Over a third of the new citizens has
already been born in Austria (36.1%).
In the first half of 2020, the largest groups of naturalised
people (41.9%) were former citizens of the following five countries:
Serbia (503), Bosnia and Herzegovina (477), Turkey (397), Kosovo (231)
and Iran – Islamic Republic (173).
