Tertiary educational attainment

Long-term trends

The tertiary attainment level of 30 to 34 year olds in Austria has risen continuously over the last years. The indicator is used to measure the proportion of 30 to 34 year olds who have a tertiary qualification according to the International Standard Qualification of Education (ISCED). Tertiary education comprises university degrees (Bachelor, Master, PhD) as well as short-cycle tertiary education (such as “BHS-Matura”, “Meister-” or “Werkmeisterprüfung”).

Current results

The tertiary educational attainment level in Austria in 2019 (annual average) was 42.4% regarding the 30 to 34 year olds (EU-27: 40.3%). Overall around 253 000 people held a tertiary degree, of whom 119 000 were young men and 134 000 were young women.
