Pipeline Transport

The survey on transport in pipelines covers inland transport, international receipt and dispatch as well as transit. It is conducted using voluntary reports by the pipeline operating companies. The rate of return constitutes 100% and the results are published annually. Due to confidentiality reasons it is not possible to distinct the results by type of transport.

Results

The transport volume of 74.7 million tonnes in the reporting year 2019 was 0.4 million tonnes respectively 0.6% higher than the reference value of the preceding year (2018: 74.3 million tonnes). A decrease of 1.9% to 38.7 million tonnes (2018: 39.4 million tonnes) was registered in transports of petroleum and products of petroleum whereof the volume of transported natural gas increased by 3.3% to 36.0 million tonnes (2018: 34.8 million tonnes).

Transport performance (i.e. the product of transport volume and distance) showed a decrease of 61.4 million tonnes- kilometres (tkm) to 17 591 million tkm; 0.3% less compared to the year before (2018: 17 653 million tkm). The transport performance of petroleum and products of petroleum decreased by 0.1% to 8 567 million tkm (2018: 8 577 million tkm) and the transport performance of natural gas lost by 0.6% to 9 024 million tkm (2018: 9 076 million tkm).
