Number of deaths fluctuates in the first half of August

Vienna, 2021-08-26 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, the number of deaths remained at a slightly elevated level during the second half of July (1 578 people in calendar week 29 and 1 524 people in calendar week 30). In the first week of August (calendar week 31 from August 2 to 8, 2021), the number of deaths declined to 1 459 people, but increased in the following week (August 9 to 15, 2021) to 1 621 people, which is 14.8% above the five-year average.
