Child and youth welfare supported in 2020 38 489 minors in their families, 12 678 outside of their families

Vienna, 2021-07-28 – In 2020, 38 489 children and adolescents received educational support while they remained in their families ("Unterstützung der Erziehung"), whereas 12 678 minors were in residential care or lived in foster families ("volle Erziehung"). The percentage of male minors was in both support services ("Unterstützung der Erziehung": 54.3%; "volle Erziehung": 53.2%) higher than that of female minors.

The total expenditure (also including help for young adults) were €702.3 million in 2020. The receipts out of reimbursements by the persons obliged to provide maintenance amounted to €41.5 million (net expenditure: €660.8 million). Three quarters of the total expenditure fell upon residential care and foster parents.
