Number of deaths continues to decline, mortality 1.4% above five-year average

Vienna, 2021-02-18 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, 1 866 people died in Austria in calendar week 5 (from 1 to 7 February 2021). This is 1.4% more than the five-year average (2016–2020) for the same calendar week. The number of deaths has been decreasing since calendar week 3 (from 18 to 24 January) when 2 001 people died, which was 12.5% more than the five-year average for calendar week 3.
