In 2020, the Austrian daily press consisted of 13 newspapers (journalistic units) with 18 additive regional editions (not taking into account dailies for free), while the number of weekly newspapers was 250. All Austrian daily newspapers together reached 58.3% of the population in 2020 (based on the resident population aged 14 and above), which corresponds to a projection of 4.39 million readers. The newspaper that reached by far the highest percentage of the population throughout Austria was the Neue Kronen Zeitung (25.0%). Of the quality newspapers, Der Standard achieved the highest circulation with 7.0%.
The number of radio and television licenses in 2020 was 3.65 million and 3.44 million respectively, which equates to a coverage of households of 91.5% and 86.3%, respectively. The total percentage of the population reached daily by radio was (based on the resident population aged 10 and above) 75.7%, those reached by television (based on the resident population aged 12 and above) amounted to 70.3%.
In 2020, the number of cinema visits decreased by 69.4% over the previous year to 4.4 million; this equates to0.5 visits per inhabitant.
