Number of naturalisations increased by 7.9% in the first quarter of 2019

Vienna, 2019-05-16 – 2 764 persons acquired Austrian citizenship in the first quarter of 2019. According to Statistics Austria, the number of naturalisations increased by 7.9% compared to the first quarter of 2018 (2 561 naturalisations). Females accounted for 53.7% of all naturalisations, children and juveniles under 18 years of age for 33.8%. Over a third of the new citizens had already been born in Austria (33.6%).

In the first quarter of 2019, the largest groups of naturalised people were former citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (293), Turkey (256), Serbia (170), Kosovo (147), the Russian Federation (120), Ukraine and Afghanistan (107 each), Romania (88) and Northern Macedonia (86).
