Medical Exams of Conscripts

Male Austrian citizens liable to military service have to undergo a medical examination to evaluate their fitness for military service, generally in the calendar year in which they complete their 18th year of age.

Looking at the birth cohort 2000, 76.2 per cent of Austrian conscripts were fit, 3.6 percent temporary unfit and 20.2 per cent unfit for military service. The average conscript was 178 cm tall and weighed 75 kg. 29 per cent of the conscripts were obese.
