Long-term trends

The indicator on young people neither in employment nor in education and training (NEET) corresponds to the percentage of the population of the age group 15 to 24 years who is not employed and not involved in education or training. In Austria, the number of NEETs is below the EU average and has decreased since 2004. In 2004 9.1% of the young people aged 15 to 24 were neither in employment nor in education and training, in 2019 the NEETs rate accounts for 7.1%.

Current results

In 2019 (annual average) 65 200 young people (15 to 24 years) were neither in employment nor in education and training (NEET), i.e. 7.1% of the young people (women: 7.3%, men: 7.0%). The EU-27 average of the NEET rate is 10.1% (2019).
