In calendar year 2019 (final results), a total of 152.7 million nights spent was reported: this means a plus of
1.9% compared to 2018. The number of nights spent by guests from abroad
rose by 2.3 million nights spent to a new record high of 112.7 million
There was an increase of 3.0% (46.2 million) in the number of guests (= arrivals). Arrivals among Austrian residents rose by 2.0% to 14.3 million while arrivals among guests from abroad rose by 3.5% to 31.9 million. The average length of stay of 3.3 nights was unchanged in comparison in 2018.

hotels, which increased by 2.7% to 54.3 million compared to 2018. The
highest relative increase in nights spent was registered with 6.0% to
13.8 million in commercial holiday dwellings or houses. Establishments

In the summer season 2020 54 million nights spent were reported, a
decrease of 31.8% compared to summer 2019. Due to the measures to contain
the COVID
Around 70% of nights spent by non-resident guests were
attributable to Germany, the most important market of origin (summer
2019: 53%), with nights spent by German guests in summer 2020 falling
by around a quarter (25.6%) to 21.94 million. Many other important markets
of origin developed negatively as a result of the measures to combat
the COVID
Due to the closings of the gastronomy and hotel industry
beginning mid of March 2020, the hotels and similar establishments recorded
a drop in nights spent by 38.9% in summer season 2020 compared to the
respective period in 2019. Broken down by type of accommodation, the

The number of nights spent in the winter season 2019/20 dropped by 18.1% to 59.68 million compared to the previous season 2018/19. Almost no nights spent were registered in the last one and a half months of the 2019/20 winter season due to the shutdown of accommodation establishments and border closings since the middle of March 2020.
The number of nights spent by guests from abroad reached
46.76 million, which is 17.1% less than in the winter season 2018/2019.
