Inflation increased to 1.8% in March 2019 (HICP: 1.7%)

Vienna, 2019-04-17 – In March 2019, the inflation rate was +1.8%, whereas it had been +1.5% in February, as Statistics Austria reports. Higher price dynamics for fuels and garments were mainly responsible for the increase of the March inflation rate. Expenditures for housing, water and energy (+3.0% compared to March 2018) proved to be the most important price driver, followed by expenditures for restaurants and hotels (+2.8%). The index level of the consumer price index 2015 (CPI 2015) was 106.4 in March. Compared to the previous month, the average price level increased by 0.9%.

The index level of the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP 2015) was 106.81 in March 2019, with the harmonised inflation rate amounting to +1.7%.
