Inflation decreased to 1.5% in February 2019 (HICP: 1.4%)

Vienna, 2019-03-15 – In February 2019, the inflation rate was +1.5%, whereas it had been +1.8% (revised) in January, as Statistics Austria reports. Cheaper garments and flight tickets were mainly responsible for the decrease of the February inflation rate. Expenditures for housing, water and energy (+2.8% compared to February 2018) proved to be the most important price driver, followed by expenditures for restaurants and hotels (+2.7%). The index level of the consumer price index 2015 (CPI 2015) was 105.5 in February (January revised 105.5). Compared to the previous month, the average price level remained unchanged.

The index level of the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP 2015) was 105.61 in February 2019 (January revised 105.62), with the harmonised inflation rate amounting to +1.4%.
