Inflation decreased to 1.7% in January 2019 (HICP: 1.7%)

Vienna, 2019-02-22 – In January 2019, the inflation rate was +1.7% (December 2018 +1.9%), as Statistics Austria reports. In particular lower price dynamics for fuels (+1.1% compared to January 2018) led to the lowest inflation rate since December 2016 (+1.4%). The expenditures for housing, water and energy (+2.5%) proved to be the most important price driver, followed by expenditures for restaurants and hotels (+2.9%). The index level of the consumer price index 2015 (CPI 2015) was 105.4 in January. Compared to the previous month, the average price level decreased by 0.8%.

The index level of the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP 2015) was 105.61 in January 2019, with the harmonised inflation rate amounting to +1.7%.
