Current Winter season 2021/22 with 33.2 million nights spent still well below pre-crisis level

Vienna, 2022-03-25 – According to preliminary results from Statistics Austria, 33.18 million nights spent were registered in Austrian accommodation establishments in the current 2021/22 winter tourist season from November 2021 to February 2022, 29.73 million more than in the same period of the previous year, when almost no nights spent were registered due to officially imposed closures of accommodation establishments. "Austria's tourism is only slowly recovering from the Corona crisis. For February 2022, traditionally the strongest month of the winter season due to the semester break, 13.6 million nights spent were reported. Thus, the tourism winter season 2021/22 to date is still 37.7% below the level of the comparable period before the Corona crisis in terms of nights spent," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
