Average monthly rent in 2021 was €8.3 per square metre, for newly contracted private rents €10.1

Vienna, 2022-03-17 – In 2021, the average monthly rent (including running costs) was €8.3 per square metre, as Statistics Austria reports. The actual amount of rent varies depending on the living space, the length of lease, the region and the rental segment. The increase in rents was slightly above the general inflation rate between 2017 and 2021: while consumer prices increased by 8.2% in this period, rents including operating costs rose by an average of 8.5%. The increase in net rent was even higher at +9.2%.
