45% of the pupils, 83% of the teachers in schools and 84% of the university students had a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate at the beginning of February

Vienna, 2022-03-09 – Less than half (45%) of the approximately 1.1 million pupils in the school year 2021/22 from the age of five had a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate as of February 3, 2022, around 19% were only recovered and a further 37% were neither recovered nor vaccinated. Among the university students, the proportion of those vaccinated is significantly higher at 84%. Almost 83% of the school teachers have a valid vaccination certificate and a further 9% are only recovered. Statistics Austria determined the vaccinated/recovered status of pupils, teachers and students on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. For the first time pupils under the age of twelve were also included.

"By the beginning of February 2022, 45% of pupils across Austria had already been vaccinated, almost 19% are only recovered and 37% are neither recovered nor vaccinated. At the beginning of February, the proportion of students and teachers with an up-to-date vaccination certificate was 84% and 83%, respectively, which is higher than the figure for the total population," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
