– The flash estimates for industry
and construction (ÖNACE B to F) by Statistics Austria for January 2022
show an increase of the turnover index (+40.2%), a moderate increase
of the index of persons employed (+2.3%) and as well of the index of
hours worked (+4.3%) compared to the same month of the previous year.
"Austria's economic locomotives, industry and
construction, remained strongly on track in January 2022. In the process,
turnover in these sectors exceeded the Corona pre-crisis level of January
2019 by a significant 26.1 percent," said Statistics Austria Director
General Tobias Thomas.
Considering the industrial and the construction sector
separately, the turnover index shows an increase in industry (+42.9%)
and a positive development in construction (+15.3%) compared to the
same month of the previous year. The index of hours worked increased
in industry (+4.3%), likewise in construction (+4.7%). The index of
persons employed shows a slight rise in industry (+2.3%) and a positive
development in construction (+2.7%).
In the reporting period November 2021,
a total of 75 099 enterprises in the entire industry
and construction sector turned over €35.2 bn (+30.1%). These
figures coupled with an increasing employment (1 019 645 persons, +2.1%).
With €29.0 bn in nominal terms, industrial
turnover increased by 35.1% in November 2021 compared to the previous
year's month. The 39 109 Austrian construction
enterprises achieved a turnover of €6.3 bn in November 2021. This corresponds
to an increase of 10.8% in nominal terms compared to the period of the
previous year.
In the reporting period January
to November 2021, turnover increased by 23.3% compared to the
same month of the previous year and amounted to €314.7 bn.
