(+1.3%) and fewer divorces
(-4.8%) in 2021 than in the previous year
Furthermore, 14 156 divorces took place in 2021, 714 or 4.8% less than in the previous year and 2 163 or 13.3% less than in 2019. At the same time, 111 registered partnerships were dissolved by court decision, three or 2.8% more than in 2020 and ten or 8.3% less than in the pre-Corona year 2019.
"Corona-related restrictions also thwarted many private plans in the second pandemic year: although slightly more couples got married in 2021 than in the year before, there were 12.7% fewer compared to the pre-Corona year 2019. However, 13.3% fewer marriages were divorced than in 2019, and compared to 2020, there were 4.8% fewer divorces," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
