COVID-19 vaccination status: 55% of pupils aged 12 and older and 86% of university students were immunised at the end of November

Vienna, 2021-12-28 – More than half of the approximately 605 000 pupils aged 12 and older in the school year 2021/22 had an up-to-date COVID-19 protection as of 30 November 2021. In comparison, the vaccination rate of 86% among university students is higher. The estimates of the vaccination status of pupils and university students were obtained by Statistics Austria on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. The basis is data from the school statistics, university statistics and the Austrian National Vaccination Register as of 30 November 2021 as well as the preliminary population status as of 1 October 2021. International vaccination data were also taken into account when estimating the vaccination status of university students from abroad.

"At the end of November, 55% of pupils aged 12 and older across Austria were immunised against COVID-19. This is a significant increase of 12 percentage points compared to the percentage at the end of September 2021. The vaccination rate of university students rose to 86% at the end of November and is thus significantly higher compared to the overall population of the same age," said Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics Austria.
