Considerable increase of turnover in services by 20.3% in the second quarter of 2021; still well below pre-crisis level

Vienna, 2021-09-03 – In the second quarter of 2021, turnover of Austrian service enterprises increased by 20.3% in nominal terms compared to the same period of the preceding year, as Statistics Austria reports. In the same period, turnover in trade increased by 22.4% in nominal terms. Taking inflation into account, sales in trade rose by 15.3%.

"Service enterprises, which were heavenly affected by the Corona crisis and the measures to contain the Corona pandemic, gained momentum in the second quarter of 2021. Accommodation and food service businesses, for example, recorded a 43.0% increase in turnover compared to the same quarter last year. Nevertheless, turnover in 'accommodation and food service activities' were still significantly below pre-crisis levels," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.

In the first half of 2021, turnover of Austrian service enterprises fell by 5.6% in nominal terms compared to the same period of the preceding year. In the same period, turnover in trade rose by 12.7% in nominal terms. Taking inflation into account, sales in trade increased by 8.1%.
