Turnover in Austrian retail sector increased by 6.4% in the first half of 2021

Vienna, 2021-08-04 – In the first half of 2021, the turnover of Austrian retail enterprises increased by 6.4% in nominal terms and by 5.2% in real terms compared to the corresponding period in 2020, according to Statistics Austria's preliminary data.

With 148 shopping days, the period from January to June 2021 had one fewer sales day than the comparable period in 2020, but in fact the number of shopping days was reduced quite significantly in both years due to the measures taken to contain the Corona pandemic.

The result for June 2021 shows an increase of turnover in retail trade by 7.4% compared to June 2020. Taking inflation into account, sales increased by 5.0%.
