Industrial producer prices increased by 6.0% in May 2021

Vienna, 2021-06-30 – The industrial producer price index, IPPI 2015, reached 106.1 points in May 2021, representing a price increase of 6.0% compared to May 2020, as Statistics Austria reports. In April and March 2021, the annual rates of change had been +4.7% and +2.8%. Thus, the upward trend for industrial producer prices continues. Compared to April 2021, the industrial producer price index rose significantly by 0.9%.

The increase of the industrial producer price index in May 2021 (+6.0%) was mainly due to high prices in the energy sector (+13.3%) and for intermediate goods (+7.4%). The prices for consumer goods went up by 1.4% compared to May 2020 and those for capital goods by 0.8%.
