Number of deaths slightly decreased

Vienna, 2021-05-20 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, 1 614 people died in Austria in calendar week 18 (from 3 to 9 May 2021), which were 67 fewer deaths than in the previous week (1 681 people died in calendar week 17). This slight decrease follows three weeks (calendar weeks 15 to 17) during which the number of deaths remained relatively constant on an increased level. It is now 9.8% above the five-year average (2016–2020) for calendar week 18.

Further information on deaths can be found on our website, where an interactive web application – the Atlas of Deaths – also graphically illustrates the development and regional distribution. Detailed results can be found in Statistics Austria's open data repository.
