Number of naturalisations decreased by 2.0% to 2 402 persons in the first quarter of 2021

Vienna, 2021-05-20 – From January to March 2021, 2 402 persons acquired Austrian citizenship. According to Statistics Austria, the number of naturalisations decreased by 2.0% compared to the first quarter of 2020 (2 451 naturalisations). Females accounted for 54.3% of all naturalisations, children and juveniles under 18 years of age for 31.1%. Almost a third of the new citizens had already been born in Austria (31.0%).

In the first three months of 2021, nearly half (49.9%) of all naturalised people were former citizens of Serbia (235), Turkey (201), Bosnia and Herzegovina (186), Kosovo and Israel (127 each), United States (125), Russian Federation (114) or Germany (83).
