2020/21 winter tourism season continues to stagnate
March overnight stays fell sharply for the second time in a row
In March 2021, the 13th month of the pandemic-induced restrictions in the accommodation sector, 1.11 million nights spent were recorded. The drop in nights spent compared to March 2020, when the first Corona-related entry ban for accommodation establishments took place in the middle of the month and 6.20 million nights spent were achieved, amounted to 81.9%. Compared to March 2019, which reached 14.98 million overnight stays, the decrease was 92.6%.
Loss of more than 100 million nights spent since the beginning of the pandemic
In the 13 reporting months affected by the pandemic (March 2020 to March 2021), there were 105 million fewer nights spent by tourists than in a comparable period before the pandemic; this corresponds to a relative decline in nights spent of 62.0%.
