Number of deaths fluctuates but remains above the five-year average

Vienna, 2021-04-22 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, 1 663 people died in Austria in calendar week 14 (from 5 to 11 April 2021). This is 2% above the five-year average (2016–2020) for calendar week 14. In the previous week (from 29 March to 4 April 2021), 1 755 people died, which were 92 more deaths than in the current week. The number of deaths has been fluctuating since the beginning of March.
