Industrial producer prices declined by 1.8% in September 2020

Vienna, 2020-10-30 – The industrial producer price index, IPPI 2015, reached 100.5 points in September 2020, representing a price decrease of 1.8% compared to September 2019, as Statistics Austria reports. In August 2020 and July 2020, the annual rates of change had been -1.9% and -2.1%. Thus, the downward trend for industrial producer prices slowed down in the third quarter of 2020. Compared to August 2020, the industrial producer price index went up 0.1%.

The industrial producer price index for the third quarter of 2020 increased by 0.1% compared to the second quarter of 2020. The year-over-year decrease in the third quarter of 2020 was 2.0%.

The decline of the industrial producer price index in September 2020 was mainly due to price reductions in the energy sector (-5.5%) and for intermediate goods (-2.2%). The prices for capital goods increased by 0.6% in September 2020 and those for consumer goods by 0.5%.
