Live births 2019: 30.1% were born by caesarean section; 7.4% preterm births

Vienna, 2019-09-10 – In 2019, the number of live births in Austria was 84 222, as Statistics Austria reports. The average weight of a new-born girl was 3 257 g, the average length 50.3 cm. New-born boys were somewhat heavier with 3 383 g and taller with 50.9 cm. The mode of delivery was spontaneous in 62.8% of all live births, 13.5% were emergency C-sections, and 16.6% elective caesareans. 7.4% of the babies were born preterm.
