Industrial producer prices fell by 2.4% in April 2020

Vienna, 2020-05-29 – The industrial producer price index, IPPI 2015, reached 100.5 points in April 2020, representing a price decrease of 2.4% compared to April 2019, as Statistics Austria reports. In March 2020 and February 2020, the annual rates of change had been -1.5% and -0.7%, respectively. The downward trend for industrial producer prices continued in April 2020. Compared to March 2020, the index went down by 0.8%.

The decrease of the industrial producer price index in April 2020 (-2.4%) was mainly caused by low prices in the energy sector (-8.8%) and for intermediate goods (-2.5%). The prices for capital goods rose by 0.9% in April 2020 and those for consumer goods by 1.4%.
