Registration of new motor vehicles

The new vehicle registration statistics show all motor vehicles and trailers that are newly registered, regardless of the registration’s duration (also so-called "short-term registrations" or one-day registrations). A short-term registration is a new vehicle registration that is deregistered within a certain period of time. In this context, the reporting month indicates the month in which the deregistration was carried out.

The new vehicle registration statistics are based on the daily data transmission of registrations by the Association of Austrian Insurance Companies (VVO). The official license plate is used as a basis of a registration. Not taken into account are all vehicles of the Federal Ministry of Defense as well as license plates for test drives and transfer drives. If available, the monthly results of the new and short-term vehicle registrations can be evaluated according to regional breakdowns, as well as vehicle-related and registration-related characteristics.
