Statistics Austria conducts an annual survey on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in households and by individuals. Using a stratified random sampling design, the ICT survey focuses exclusively on households with at least one household member aged between 16 to 74 years and further household members who fall within this age bracket. Questions relate to households' access to the internet as well as household members’ use of the internet.
The ICT survey is based on an EU regulation and is supplemented by implementing regulations, which specify the indicators to be collected each year.
Thanks to the standardised definitions and methodology, we can compare the indicators across the EU and track the progress of the digital transformation.
Austrian results are available in autumn of the respective survey year whereas EU-wide results are available at the end of the year.
