Statistics on naturalisations are based on data from legally binding notices on the granting of citizenship issued by the offices of the provincial governments of Austria. They are compiled on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior on the basis of the ordinance in accordance with Federal Law Gazette II No. 32/2000 and include all types of acquisition of citizenship pursuant to Art. 10 to 25, 57, 58c and 64a of the Citizenship Act 1985 as amended which are effected by a declaration of intent by persons residing in Austria and abroad and a subsequent official act, but not the automatic types of acquisition such as birth or legitimation of an illegitimate child. Data from naturalisation notifications is supplemented by the offices of the provincial governments with the characteristics of marital status, Convention refugee, previous citizenship and gender, and transmitted electronically after the end of a quarter.
