Description

In the population forecast, the population differentiated by federal states, age, gender and country of birth is extrapolated into the future (cohort component method). The forecasted population ages by one year in each modeled year. The new birth cohorts are calculated using age-specific fertility rates. Death rates are derived from extrapolated mortality probabilities. While international emigration is calculated from rates, immigration is given in absolute numbers. Internal migration between the federal provinces is modeled using emigration rates. In order to document the uncertainties of future developments, the population forecast is calculated in several variants based on different combinations of high, medium and low assumptions for the forecast parameters fertility, mortality and migration. The main variant uses the medium assumption sets and depicts the most probable development path.
