The housing conditions of private households in Austria are characterised by various indicators including the tenure status of the household, the size of the dwelling, certain features of dwelling and housing satisfaction. The tenure status of the household also covers the duration of the contract and whether the agreement is fixed-term or not. Indicators for overcrowding or problems with the dwelling (noise, mould, vandalism) give an overview of challenges occurring in housing.

The data is sourced from two sample surveys. The Microcensus housing survey continuously collects data on the housing situation of main residences. EU-SILC collects data on the housing situation of Austrian private households every year.
