Description

The pension amount depends on the income subject to contributions (assessment basis) as well as on the insurance period. As women on average have lower incomes from employment and their insurance histories show gaps, especially due to child rearing, women's pensions are lower than those of men.

The topic Gender Statistics provides information on the pension amount of women and men, the number of pension recipients and the average age of retirement. The basis for pensions from the statutory social insurance are the data of the Umbrella Organisation of the Social Security Institutions (Dachverband der Sozialversicherungsträger). Data for civil servants at rest is available from the wage tax data. Further information can be found on our website under Social benefits - Pensions or Income and living conditions - General income report.
