The amount of pension received depends on the income subject to contributions (assessment basis) as well as on the insurance period. Due to the wage gap between women and men and gender-specific differences in labor force participation, women's old-age pensions are significantly lower than those of men. This results in a higher risk of poverty, for example, for female retirees living alone.

On the topic of Gender statistics the section on pensions provides information on the amount of pensions received by women and men, the number of pension recipients and the average age of retirement. The basis for pensions from the statutory social insurance is the data of the Federation of Social Insurances. Data for retired civil servants is available from the wage tax data.
