The statistics include annual data on the number of schools in Austria. These include public schools and private schools whose classes are held either according to the School Organisation Act or according to a curriculum of organisational statute approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, as well as agricultural and forestry colleges and vocational schools and training centres in the health sector. The regional presentation of the results is mainly at the level of the federal province, but it is also possible to present the results at the level of the municipality.
The legal basis is the Federal Act on Documentation in Education (Bildungsdokumentationsgesetz 2020) and the ordinances of the ministries responsible for the particular types of schools.
