The statistics on pupils include annual data on institutional education within the framework of regular school attendance at public and private schools in Austria. The allocation to school types is made via the school type code based on the particular curriculum according to which the pupils are taught. In this context, it is not persons ("headcounts") that are presented, but rather the various types of education ("cases") attended within a school year on the particular cut-off date (with the exception of education in the summer semester). The regional presentation of the results is mainly done at the federal province level; data can be presented down to the municipality level.
The legal basis is the Federal Act on Documentation in Education (Bildungsdokumentationsgesetz 2020) and the ordinances of the ministries responsible for the particular types of schools.
