The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is an ongoing international study for the empirical assessment and analysis of basic skills (Literacy, Numeracy, Adaptive Problemsolving) that are important for adults aged 16 to 65 in order to actively participate in daily social life. PIAAC is coordinated by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). In Austria, this survey is conducted by Statistics Austria on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economy.
The following PIAAC-Video (duration: 2 minutes) provides the most important key figures of the study.
The current 2022/23 survey was the main round of the second PIAAC cycle. This is the second time – after 2011/12 – that internationally comparable data are available for Austria.
