Various EU-wide benchmarks on "lifelong learning" have been developed in order to continuously survey the education and training activities of the adult population aged 25 to 64.
Within this framework, the Adult Education Survey (AES; sample survey) is conducted every six years. The current AES 2022/23 (previous surveys AES 2016/17; AES 2011/12) provides a broad overview of the educational and learning activities of people in adulthood over the last twelve months. With the AES 2022/23, 18- to 24-year-olds are included in the survey for the first time since 2011/12.
In addition, education and training activities are surveyed continuously within the last four weeks and biennially within the last twelve weeks as part of the microcensus labor force survey (LFS, sample survey) in order to observe trends.
The results tables include evaluations of education and training, barriers to education, informal learning and languages according to socio-demographic characteristics.
