The data on the availability of consumer durables in private households provides information about the living standard of private households in Austria. The collected data comprises information on household appliances and electronic devices in the households, the availability of cars and bicycles, and the financial protection of the households through insurance.
The availability of consumer durables in private households and living standard indicators were surveyed regularly from the beginning of the 1970s to the beginning of the 1990s in the Microcensus special surveys. Since these living standard indicators provide important additional information in the context of expenditure and income of households, they were integrated into the questionnaires of the Household budget surveys (HBS) from 1999/00 onwards. The HBS is carried out every five years. The current data on the availability of consumer durables in private households derives from the HBS 2019/20.
