The price index for motor vehicle liability insurance (MVLIPI) – ordered by the Association of the Insurance Companies of Austria – measures the average price development of the most important insurance benefit components of motor vehicle insurance. The MVLIPI consists of the following main groups: vehicle damage, other property damage and personal injury. Below that there are further aggregates and index positions. External data and in-house data from the comsumer price index, index of agreed minimum wages and construction cost index is used to calculate the index.
In 2016 and 2024, Statistics Austria revised the basket of the motor vehicle liability insurance price index MVLIPI. The weight structure can be seen in “Basket and weights MVLIPI 2016 (.pdf)”. Statistics Austria has published the new MVLIPI with the base year 2024 since January 2025. The MVLIPI (base: 2010) and the MVLIPI (base: 2016) will continue and is chained with the MVLIPI (base: 2024).
