The International Trade in Services Statistics (ITSS) distinguishes four different modes to supply services abroad (Modes of Supply 1-4): 1) cross-border supply, 2) consumption abroad, 3) commercial presence (foreign affiliates) and 4) presence of natural persons in the country of the consumer. Data from the balance of payments (modes 1, 2 and 4) and from Foreign Affiliates Statistics (FATS, mode 3) are used to calculate the four modes of supply.
The yearly compiled data are structured according to service categories from the EBOPS (Extended Balance of Payments Services) classification. Data is available for imports and exports, respectively. Mode 3, commercial presence, is calculated by Statistics Austria, whereas modes 1, 2 and 4 are compiled by the Austrian Central Bank (OeNB) being responsible for the total calculation of Austrian modes of supply. The legal basis is the EBS Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1197. Data for all modes of supply (modes 1-4) is available from the reporting year 2023 onwards.
