The Census of Local Units of Employment collects data from administrative sources on local units of employment of enterprises located in Austria as well as their employees (reference date: 31 October every year). It covers all economic activities from sections A to S. The Census of Local Units of Employment does not cover local units of exterritorial entities (such as embassies), private households with employees or landlords/landladies (ÖNACE 68.20-9) that are not included in the Commercial Register. Local units of employment are permanently established units which are identified by a name and address and where at least one person is employed.
In contrast to the Register-based Labour Market Statistics that capture only the main activity of Austrian residents, the Census of Local Units of Employment counts every employment relationship. In addition, employees without Austrian residence are included (commuters from abroad).
