The Census of local units of employment collects data from administrative sources on local units of employment of enterprises located in Austria as well as their employees (reference date 31 October every year). It covers all economic activities from economic sectors A to S (OENACE 2008). Excluded from the Census of local units of employment are local units of exterritorial entities such as embassies, consulates and international organizations as well as private households with employees (OENACE 68.20-9).
Local units of employment are units, which are set up on a continuous basis, characterized by name and address, where at least one person is employed.
In contrast to the Register based labor market statistics that capture only the main activity of Austrian residents, the Census of local units of employment counts every employment relationship. In addition, employees without Austrian residence are included (commuters from abroad).
