The microcensus on environmental conditions and environmental behavior is a survey of private individuals and shows the extent to which people are affected by noise, heat, odors, dust or soot in their living areas and the suspected causes. An assessment of the general environmental quality in Austria as well as the most urgent environmental problem, an evaluation of the quality of life and its influencing factors are also carried out.
In addition, an analysis of environmental behavior in online shopping and the purchase of environmentally friendly and socially responsible products is carried out. Questions on waste separation in households are examined and whether the environment also plays a role in the choice of vacation. In the area of mobility in Austria, data on the choice of transport and the attractiveness of public transport are analysed.
The survey takes place at 4–5-year intervals. The last survey was conducted in 2019, and the next one is scheduled for 2023.
