The microcensus on environmental conditions and behavior records the extent to which people are affected by noise, smells, dust or soot and what causes are suspected. Attitudes towards climate change and heat stress are also examined. In addition, the assessment of the general environmental quality in Austria as well as the littering of public spaces, the most pressing environmental problem and the factors influencing the quality of life are presented. Furthermore, an analysis of environmental behavior is carried out in relation to the purchase of environmentally friendly products. Questions about investing in environmentally friendly financial products and the environmental friendliness of vacation trips are explored. When it comes to mobility, the choice of mode of transport and the attractiveness of public transport are analysed. In 2023, there was a particular focus on circular economy issues such as usage duration, repair and reuse. The survey is carried out at 4–5 year intervals.

This might partially have led to changes in response behavior, which means that the most recent results are only partially comparable with previous results.
