Data on wine production and wine stock (reference date 31 July) are collected annually. Preliminary data on wine production are based on estimates by voluntary harvest consultants such as winegrowers or other experts, who report yields for regionally defined unit areas (municipalities). Final results of wine production and wine stock are taken from the wine database of the responsible Ministry, which is based on the annual declarations of wine production and wine stock in accordance with the Wine Law (“Weingesetz 2009”) as amended. Production data for white and red wine are differentiated by wine-growing-region, final results are also broken down by wine product. Data on wine stock are broken down by federal province, colour and wine product.
First estimates on wine production are published as early as August, final results are usually available in March of the following year.
