Eggs for consumption: The data includes the number of chicken eggs intended for human consumption that were collected from agricultural holdings, including organic eggs. These eggs can be delivered to packing centres, directly sold to consumers or the agri-food industry or consumed on the agricultural holdings.
The number of eggs produced for human consumption in a calendar year is determined using a model based on the number of laying hens. Data from the Austrian Egg Database and the expertise of representatives from the poultry industry are also incorporated into the calculation.
Organic: Due to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2745, from 2025 onwards the number of organic eggs for consumption will also be determined.
Eggs for hatching, chicks: The number of eggs placed in incubation and the amount of chicks hatched of chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowls are collected monthly by direct survey of poultry hatcheries. There is a legal reporting obligation of hatcheries with an incubation capacity of at least 1 000 eggs.
