The Adult Education Survey 2022/23 (AES) provides a broad overview of the learning activities of the Austrian resident population aged 18 to 69 over a twelve-month period. Both work-related and non.work-related motivated learning activities are recorded. This publication emphasizes the educational behavior of adults in a social context (educational and learning types) as well as the educational behavior of young adults (18 to 24 years).

Participation in school and university education (formal education) as well as further education in the form of courses, seminars, workshops, lectures, private lessons and individual training in the workplace (non-formal education) are dealt with in detail. Non-institutionalized learning activities (informal learning) are also examined. In addition, access to information and guidance on education and training as well as difficulties in participating in education round off the central topic of learning activities. Language skills and an international comparison are offered as thematic additions.

The survey was conducted as part of the European Adult Education Survey (AES) on the basis of the methodological and conceptual guidelines defined by Eurostat. The client and financier in Austria was the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMWBF). The European results are published by Eurostat.

This publication is available in German only.
